Seaside Mobile Estates was built in three phases starting in the early 50's and finished in the early sixties. When it first opened it consisted on of travel trailers. Trailers at that time did not have bathrooms, so the common area (now the storage area next to the laundry room) was the community restroom and showering facility. It wasn't until 1959 that the State of California allowed bathrooms to be manufactured in trailers. In the 60's, "10" Wide mobile homes began to fill many of the spots on a more permanent basis. Through the 70's it was a mix of travel trailers and mobile homes. My Father and Grandfather purchased the Park in 1979 when it was called the Ideal Trailer Court. The owner at the time had decided that Monterey was a perfect area for a RV Park, and had high intentions to take it in that direction. However, when my Father and Grandfather purchased it they decided to only allow mobile homes, and officially changed the name to Seaside Mobile Estates. Through the years, many of the original older dilapidated trailers have been replaced with new manufactured homes. To many of our current residents credit, they have upgraded their 60's trailers in to wonderful charming homes. Both have helped create the beautiful community we have today. My Father and I agree that the Park has never looked better than it does right now. Marilyn and her late husband John deserve a lot of credit for doing such a great job of enforcing the rules and being masters of cleanliness.
